Where to go boating at Lake Tahoe?

Hi, I going to Lake Tahoe this weekend. I have an inflatable peddle boat that I want to use at Lake Tahoe. Do I have to pay for a fee to launch it at beaches? Which is the best beach in North Lake Tahoe to launch my boat? Thank you for you help in advance.

well, you have a number of options for launching in North Lake. By far the best beach is Sand Harbor on the nevada side. They have a public boat ramp and a really nice sandy beach with real intersting boulders on the shoreline and in the water. You’ll have to pay for parking there and it gets very busy, so if that’s your choice, go early if the weather is nice. If your inflatable requires a launch ramp you’ll have to pay for that I think.
Another option if you want something a little more on the dl amd you dont need a ramp is to go to Carnelian Bay. Park next to Garwood’s and walk down to the Carnelian Bay beach. It’s a combo of sand and pebbles – not nearly as nice as Sand Harbor, but there’s no fee and parking is usually plentiful.
King’s Beach is also really nice, but you’ll have to pay for parking there unless you park on the street.

One last suggestion if you’d like something a little more secluded and off the beaten path is to go to speedboat beach – it’s on the California side right before Nevada – the area is called Brockway. Turn on to Speedboat towards the beach and go as far as you can go towards the water. There will be a small sandy beach there that’s pretty secluded and the has some really cool stones in the water.

Have fun!
