The best scenic route to South Lake Tahoe from the Los Banos area?
I’m going to be heading to South Lake Tahoe in about a week and a half, weather permitting, from the Morgan Hill area. I want to leave between 7-8 AM on a weekday, probably Thursday, so I plan on going counter-commute over Pacheco Pass to I-5 in Los Banos. What route would you advise for scenery that doesn’t lengthen the trip too much? thanks!

Since you can hear me breathing, I’ll offer up an answer.
The 101S to the 152E.
The 152E to the 5N. (Save 5 minutes and take the 33N to the 5N)
The 5N to 4E (Stockton Cross town freeway)
The 4E to the 99N
The 99N to the 88N
The 88N to the 89N
The 89N to the 50N
The 50N into S. Lake Tahoe.
This should not dramatically alter your travel time. Hwy 88 will take you through beautiful wooded mountains. Watch for your turn in Jackson or you’ll head south on 49 and never get there…
An alternate route would be to go north on the 49 to the 50E. A little longer but equally beautiful as the 88.
Keep enough money to buy gas home. Those South Tahoe slot machines will suck your pockets dry!
