lake tahoe spring weather
please help! north lake tahoe?

my husband and I plan to celebrate the 1st birthday of our daughter at north lake tahoe 2nd week of may (next year) but we dont know the weather and if its warm to swim in the lake and do rafting and if gandola ride is open during spring time. need help..

As the other posters indicated, the lake will definately be too cold to swim for the second week of May. It doesn’t start to get “swimmable” until the end of June. By then, you’ll find water temperatures at sandy beaches to be right around 70 degrees. Still cold, but on a hot day, it’s very refreshing. In the middle of May, the water temperature is still in the low 60s. As far as other activities on the north shore, Squaw Valley has a heated pool at the top of the cable car at High Camp. You can take the ride and go swimming up there – it’s pretty fun, especially when it’s sunny out which is usually the majority of May. You can also take a steamship cruise to emerald bay which is bery beautiful. You can do dinner cruises or daytime cruises as well. I’d recommend the cruise from the South Shore – http://www.zephyrcove.com/cruises/index.cfm.
The north shore cruises are kind of second rate.
