Chains in the snow (South Lake Tahoe)?
OK. The boyfriend and I are going to be traveling to South Lake Tahoe later this month. Chances are, there will be snow up in the mountains.
I … unfortunately .. have NO IDEA how snow chains work. Would they be suitable for a RWD Mustang, or a Dodge Intrepid? Is it a lot different driving with the chains on the tires? Just tell me where to start.
Remember:
1. I am a woman. I know it’s not a suitable excuse, but give me a break.
2. I am book smart and automobile illiterate.
Help! Thank you in advance.
you can find chains or cables for both of those cars. chains cost more, but work better. cables are cheaper, but don’t work as well or last long. just take your tire size in with you when you go to buy them. front wheel drive cars do better in the snow.
driving in the snow isn’t too bad. YOU NEED TO GO SLOW, AND RESPECT THE ROAD. most accidents happen just because people drive to fast. plus chains can mess up your car if you drive too fast, keep it under 25.
people say to drive onto them, but the easiest way to install them is to drape them over the top of your tire. reach behind and connect the rear hook. then connect the front latch. you must use chain tensioners on the outside or you could throw your chain.
i live at 7200 feet in the san bernardino mountains in ca. i drive in the snow all winter in my saturn ion.
